"I can HEAR me now!"

The HEARAMP Personal Monitor is an earphone amplifier, built into the Harmonica Honker. It will drive in-ear headphones with plenty of power. You will be able to hear yourself over any stage sound level and you'll know exactly what your Honker is putting out. It will drive ONE or BOTH earpieces of a stereo headset. (See the Note) Down Arrow

The monitor amplifier has its own power switch, on its own volume control. You can use the Honker without it, saving the battery life when the monitor is not needed, and it has a BRIGHT ¤ BLUE power-on LED so you won't leave it on. This Blue ¤ LED is also a battery monitor, and starts to flash when you have at least 4 hours of battery life left.
NEW!

The HEARAMP is NOW AVAILABLE with a RECHARGABLE BATTERY!

NEW!
The newest option for the Earphone Amplifier model is a Nickel Metal-Hydride Rechargable. You get OVER 8 HOURS of personal monitor use before you need to recharge (overnight). The Blue ¤ LED is again a battery monitor. When it starts to flash, you have at least an hour and a half of battery left.

The HEARAMP Honker normally comes with the ULTRALIFE Lithium battery that will power the HEARAMP for 75 hours. (around $10 at Radio Shack)
You can use an ordinary 9-Volt Alkaline battery and you will get about 20 hours of HEARAMP use out of them.
But, to save changing batteries, for $26 you can get the Nickel Metal-Hydride Rechargable that will last for years. (Over 1000 Recharges!)

Your Honker Earphone Amplifier can be used to amplify other stuff. With the volume on the ring turned down, you can plug a mic-level or line-level source into the OUTPUT Jack and the signal will be amplified to the headphones. (Like, you could plug in a player and play along!)

For a little more info, you can read the HEARAMP INSTRUCTIONS.

For more info on the Rechargable battery, READ THIS.

The RECHARGEABLE BATTERY will add $26 to the price.

Your existing (BLACK) Honker BeltPack or LowBlown CAN be retrofitted with the Earphone Amplifier for $70. (plus shipping)
Your HEARAMP Honker can NOT be retrofitted with a Rechargable Battery. The battery life indicator would not be accurate.

Hit THIS if you'd like to HAVE a HARMONICA HONKER with PERSONAL MONITOR!

It will take about two weeks to put a Honker HEARAMP together.

You will need to provide your own IN-the-EAR-CANAL, ISOLATING earphones.
Here are some sites to browse, there is a WIDE variation in prices. For example:
Ultimate Ears
$100-$900
Etymötic
$75-$330
Shure
$100-$350
Sony
$25-$50
Koss
$10-$20

Koss makes some headphones that seem to be a good compromise between quality and price.
The KOSS "PLUG"
The KOSS "PATHFINDER"
They have foam plugs that you squash and stuff in your ears.
The foam slowly expands and seals your ear canal well enough to provide isolation.

The Note:

The Earphone Amp can drive ONE or BOTH ears of your headphones. If you want one ear for the Honker and the other ear to monitor something else, there is a jumper that will disconnect one side (the ring) and allow only the 'tip' channel to be driven. (USUALLY, Ring= Right and Tip=Left, but not always...) Using Dual-Mono / Stereo "Y" cords you can plug one earpiece into the Honker and the other ear can have the vocal monitor, ambient mic, etc. You'd have to provide your own amp and volume control for this "other" side. Here's a way to do this.

The jumper needs to be removed if you use a MONO earphone or only want one ear to be driven. However, it is STRONGLY recommended that you wear both earbuds or use an earplug in the other ear if you do this. Both ears should be plugged with SOMETHING. With one ear open, you will need to turn up your headphone amplifier AS LOUD OR LOUDER than the stage volume. This WILL lead to permanent hearing loss if you do it long and loud enough. Please don't.
